MAI CHAU - PU LUONG
Means of transport:
Today we escape the busy city and head to Mai Chau - a beautiful and quaint valley mainly occupied by the White Thai. We get to the town around noon and a special lunch prepared by the Thai people will be waiting for you.
The afternoon visit will continue with a nice bike ride, to immerse yourself in the authentic countryside untouched by mass tourism. You will be charmed by the friendly and welcoming smiles of the White Thai people, their traditional houses on stilts, green rice fields and vegetable gardens. Glide by bamboo forests along our cycle path passing through Chieng Sai, Cha, Cha Long, Na Tang, Tong Dau villages. After dinner you will enjoy a traditional music show. Overnight at the homestay in Ban Van village.
In the morning we will drive to Pu Luong. The road leading to Pu Luong Nature Reserve takes you over breath-taking mountain passes and offers fascinating bird’s- eye views of the whole valley.
In the afternoon, we start the descent into the beautiful valley facing the Retreat, where you walk around the rice terraces. A small path covered with vegetation slowly leads us to Uoi village sitting at the foot of a towering mountain. Your camera battery will be feeling the strain at this point due to the scenic view of the village from above. We walk down the hill to Uoi village and then on to Lan Village. If time permits, we will stop to visit a local family to learn about traditional brocade weaving. Walking resumes through the rice paddies again to get to the main road and the car pick-up point. Take the car back to Pu Luong Retreat for dinner.
We will transfer 12km from the Retreat to the starting place of our walking journey. After crossing the suspension bridge over the Cham River, we will follow the stream and walk across rice fields, from village to village hunting beautiful water wheels. You can approach the wheels to investigate how water is conducted from the river to handmade bamboo aqueducts by these simple devices of all sizes.
Upon arrival at a local fisherman's house, we take a short rest and prepare for the bamboo river rafting with Dinh and his team. While cruising down a calm river on the bamboo raft, take this precious chance to enjoy the stunning views of the riverbanks, but don't forget to learn how to paddle and steer your fisherman’s raft. Disembark when we reach Tan Lap bridge and drive back to Hanoi.
